Friends Palace (Pu Yi Gong): Meaning, Triad & the 14 Major Stars
The Friends Palace — the 'servants' palace in older texts — shows friends, colleagues, subordinates and the wider social circle. This page covers what it shows, its opposite and triad palaces, empty palaces, the four transformations here, and the fourteen major stars in it.
What the Friends Palace shows
The Friends Palace (called the Servants Palace in older texts) shows friends, colleagues, subordinates and your wider circle: which circle you move in, and what it gives or costs you.
Modern reading
Modern use maps it to network quality, team relationships and community belonging; also the reliability and help of subordinates and partners.
Opposite palace and triad
The Friends Palace's opposite is the Siblings Palace; its triad palaces are the Parents Palace and the Children Palace. When you read the Friends Palace, these four palaces 'shine' onto it together and should be read as one picture.
Friends is the opposite of Siblings; together they are the two ends of 'people': Siblings is close-range peer cooperation, Friends is the wider circle.
If the palace is empty
A palace with no major star is called empty; borrow the major stars of its opposite (the Siblings Palace) to read it, discount the borrowed stars, and then add the palace's own companion stars, harsh stars and transformations.
Four transformations in the Friends Palace
Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji falling into the Friends Palace activate the area of friends and network: Hua Lu tends to bring affinity and ease, Hua Quan control and initiative, Hua Ke reputation and benefactors, Hua Ji fixation and lessons. The site has a separate entry for each, linked below.
The fourteen major stars in the Friends Palace
Each of the fourteen major stars behaves differently in the Friends Palace. The site has a separate entry for each star, covering temperament, career, love and wealth — see the links below.
Common misconceptions
1) A strong Friends Palace doesn't mean all your friends are reliable; it describes tendencies. 2) Hua Ji here can just mean you invest deeply in friendship. 3) Be cautious with verdicts such as 'villains around you'.
How to read it
Start with stars and brightness; then the opposite Siblings Palace and the triad (Children, Parents); for partnerships, add the Career Palace.
